The king of Athens has a problem with Crete. Its ruler, Minos, has defeated him and threatens to destroy his country if he does not sacrifice seven boys and seven girls every nine years to the Minotaur, a creature that is half man and half bull and lives in a large labyrinth on Crete.
As the king's son of Athens, Theseus cannot bear the thought of boys and girls being fed to the Minotaur. One day he has himself boarded when a new batch of 'sacrifices' is sent to Crete. When they arrive on Crete King Minos counts fifteen people and asks why one extra person is going into the labyrinth this time. Theseus tells Minos that he wants to kill the Minotaur. The latter mocks him and says that he will be the first to be fed to the monster.
