Ramses II in Chariot Shooting Arrow
Ramses II is considered to be the greatest pharaoh of all time. He was a great general and builder. Among other things, he had Abu Simbel and the Ramesseum built and also expanded several other temples. Moreover, he had a new capital built in the Nile Delta in order to respond earlier to a Hittite attack. He had many wives, including Nefertari, who has one of the most beautiful tombs in the Valley of the Queens. Ramses himself was buried in the Valley of the Kings (tomb DK 7). His mummy is in Cairo.
At the age of 14, he was appointed co-regent. He reached a very old age (probably ninety) and celebrated many Sed festivals as a result. He died after a reign of 66 years and 2 months and was succeeded by his thirteenth son Merenptah.
