Pythia the Oracle of Delphi Veronese Design 25,5cm
The Oracle of Delphi, Ancient Greek: Μαντείο των Δελφών, Manteío toon Delfón, was part of the Greek sanctuary, located in the centre of Delphi. A prophetess, the Pythia, gave her advice there in the Apollo temple. The place was thus an oracle, a very important oracle, also dedicated to the god Apollo. From far and wide, thousands of people, often pilgrims, came to Delphi every year to consult the oracle and ask the gods for good advice in making important and difficult decisions. This was through the intervention of the prophetess. As god of 'the Light', Apollo was supposed to penetrate everything and 'see' what escapes the eye of men.
