It was the first pharaoh (king) of Egypt and the god of plants, when the pharaoh died he became the god Osiris.
Osiris was the son of the god of earth Geb and the goddess of heaven Noet. He also had a sister; Isis and a brother; Seth. With his sister Isis, he was also married.
His younger brother Seth, who was personalised by chaos and disorder was immensely jealous of Osiris. Osiris was killed by Seth, among others. Seth made a coffin in which only Osiris could fit. Those who fit in it got to keep the coffin. Everyone tried, finally Osiris comes, he does fit in it. Seth closes the coffin and throws it into the water. Isis searches and searches and finally she finds him. She opens the coffin; Osiris was dead. He became the god of the dead and Seth did not become a pharaoh.
Osiris was the god of the underworld and mummies.
