Creation of Spider-Man
In 1960, Stan Lee announced that he wanted to make a comic about a hero teenagers could relate to. He also claimed in a television interview that he got the idea for Spider-Man when he saw a fly crawling up a wall.
Jack Kirby claimed in 1982 that Stan Lee had only a small part in the creation of Spider-Man. According to him, he and Joe Simon had the idea for a hero called "The Silver Spider". Joe Simon wrote in his 1990 autobiography that he came up with the name Spiderman and that Kirby came up with the story and superpowers of this new hero. They showed this idea to Stan Lee. He thought it was a good idea and commissioned Kirby to make a comic about this new hero. However, Lee was not satisfied with the end result and went to draftsman Steve Ditko who designed a Spider-Man that Lee liked.
Simon later used the idea for the Silver Spider for his own comic book hero The Fly. Ditko admitted that The Fly and his Spiderman were very similar and designed an entirely new character that Stan Lee named Spider-Man.
