...As Jesus walked along, He saw a man who had been blind from birth. His disciples asked Him, "Teacher, how is it that he was born blind? Is it because his parents disobeyed God, or he himself?" Jesus answered, "It is not because he or his parents have disobeyed God. But God now wants to show people through him how good and powerful He is. He has sent Me to do what He wants. That is what I am doing. as long as it is light. For once it has become dark, no one can do it anymore. As long as I am on the earth, I am the light of men." Then He spat on the ground and made a mud paste. He put it on the blind man's eyes and said to him, "Go and wash in the Pool of Siloam." The man went there and washed. When he came back he could see.

His neighbors and the other people who had known him as a blind beggar brought him to the Pharisees. Now it was the holy day of rest when Jesus made the mud paste and healed the man's eyes. The Pharisees asked the man how he could now see. He replied, "He put a mud paste on my eyes. I washed it off and then I could see." Some of them then said, "That man is not sent by God, for he does not keep the holy day of rest." Others said, "But how can an evil man perform such miracles?" And they disagreed. Then they asked the man who had been blind, “What do you think of Him now that He has healed your eyes?” He replied, “He is a prophet!”
