Hel (also Hella, Helle, Hell, Hela or Hellia) is the goddess of the underworld, Helheim and Niflheim in Norse mythology.
She is a daughter of Loki and Angrboda and the sister of Fenrisulfr and Jormungand.
Odin cast Hel into the underworld and gave her authority over those who died a natural death. She has a body that is half black and half covered with flesh. Her dwelling place is the Eliudnir hall, her servants are Ganglati and Ganglot.
In the Edda, Hel is described as the fortune-teller who predicts the death of Baldr to Wodan. She also predicts the birth of a son of Wodan, who will avenge the death of Baldr. Wodan insults Hel and she will never let a man come to her again until the downfall of the gods, due to the breakaway Loki.
