Kubera Hindu God of Wealth Veronese Design
Kubera or Kuber is the god of wealth and treasures in Hinduism and the god-king of many demigods such as the Yakshas. He is considered the ruler of the north (Dik-pala) and a protector of the world (Lokapala). He is glorified as the possessor of treasures.
Originally described as the ruler of evil spirits in the Vedic texts, Kubera later gained the status of a deva (god) in the Puranas and Hindu epics.
The texts describe that Kubera once ruled Lanka, but was later overthrown by his demonic stepbrother Ravana. He then settled in Alaka (in the Himalayas). Descriptions of the beauty and wealth of Kubera's city appear in several texts.
