Horus was one of the first gods in ancient Egypt. Horus is the god of hunting, heaven and war. He is also the protector of the pharaohs. He is usually represented with a head of a falcon, Horus' Eye, and a red and white crown.
The god had four main appearances:
As sky god: This was the first representation of Horus and preceded all other forms. The Egyptian word her from which the name Horus is derived means 'he who is high' or 'he who is far away'.
As a sun god: As a corollary to his role as sky god, Horus was also depicted and worshipped as a sun god. In this role too, the god has multiple appearances.
As son of the goddess Isis: In this form, worship took place as the son of Osiris and Isis. Horus then appears as an infant on the lap of his mother Isis.
As god of kingship: The pharaoh was the living personification of Horus on earth. Two of the five names the pharaoh had were names 'named' after the god Horus. These were the Pharaoh's Horus name and the Golden Horus name.
