Battle of Hercules with Hydra
Hercules is the son of the supreme god Zeus and Alkmene. His mother was a Greek princess, daughter of Electryon, the king of Mycenae.
The demigod Hercules is known for the twelve difficult, for ordinary mortals impossible, works that he must perform for King Eurystheus. One of his tasks is to defeat the Hydra of Lerna. Hydra is a nine-headed poisonous water snake that lives in the depths of Lerna Lake, in Argolis. A fight with the monstrosity is particularly difficult. The story goes that when a head of the venomous snake was chopped off, it immediately grew back again, twice. However, Hercules is not only an exceptionally strong hero, he is also extremely clever. He had an assistant, his nephew Iolaos, cauterise the neck after cutting off a head. This is how the hero finally managed to defeat the monster.
