His Master's Voice Metal plaque Nipper
HMV is known for its striking logo: a little dog called Nipper is holding his ears to the horn of an old-fashioned gramophone. According to tradition, he was listening to his master's voice at that moment. The logo was designed at the end of the 19th century by British artist Francis Barraud. It was purchased in 1899 by The Gramophone Company in Great Britain, the forerunner of today's EMI, but the logo was not used on the record labels of the company until ten years later.
